words are but themselves
unless you use them to mean something more
than just syllables
than just the definition
than just dictionaries and
memorized lists of things
I will never remember

there is much more
to words, to being a poet,
than sculpting poems.
you don't breathe the air,
you live it.
you don't shake the world,
you feel it shift beneath your feet.
you don't speak words-
you lift them from your lips into whatever
the muse may ask of you.
sure, you can be a poet without these things.
but without these things, I would not be a poet.
A poet is defined as "a person who has the gift of poetic thought, imagination, and creation, together with eloquence of expression" on dictionary.com
which is a pretty good definition.

I stare up at the stars a lot, when I'm coming home late at night. A few weeks ago, I learned that my grandma does that too. Which is pretty cool since we're both writers.
